I Come From

I come from the flesh and blood
From the pollen on the flowers

I come from the scorching heat
From the sun beating rhythmically

I come from the waves and the sand
From the swish and the breeze

I come from the laughter and the tears
From the warm, dry sheets and cold pillows

I come from the black ink
From the words that dust the surface

I come from the evergreen trees
From the blackness deep within

I come from the gold and silver
From the clink of jewelry and hearts

I come from the materials
From the cotton and breathless silks

I come from a place you've never been
From the lyrics and the melodies

I come from the blues and browns
From the shades of eyes and dirt

I come from the meadow
From the river where the rocks lie

I come from the spotless glass
From the slow liquid of the topaz

I come from the aggravation
From the shouts and cries in the clouds

I come from the musk and old
From the moth balls and the canoes

I come from the hair and nails
From the dyes and the imprints

And even though I come from somebody else
I have always come from my heart
